He was 92. During a four-decade career -- his last official film as a visual effects coordinator was 1981's "Clash of the Titans" -- he earned a life-time achievement Academy Award and stoked the imaginations of filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Terry Gilliam, George Lucas and Peter Jackson.
